The popularity of denim-type leather jackets is very high, but what would it look like if a blue dyeing and fading effect could be expressed through horsehide? Relying on our enthusiasm, creativity and confidence in the unlimited potential of horsehide, Double Helix launched an exclusively-developed white core blue dyed horsehide in 2018, after more than a year of trial and development.
After repeated washing of the leather, the tea colour is processed into white, after which indigo dyeing is carried out, resulting in a beautiful, rich sea blue once it has been washed again. Over time, a fading effect of interweaving blue and white is seen, much like a denim jacket.(Thickness:1.3mm-1.5mm)
Super hyped to introduce the Double Helix 1.3-1.5mm Tea Core horsehide, Western Cowboy vest into The Shop Vancouver.

TEA CORE SEMI ANILINE HORSEHIDE
Tea core horsehide mainly refers to the process of only dyeing the surface of horsehide but not penetrating to the tea-colored core. Even though tea core leather is now widely used, Double Helix's tea core horsehide still retains a special presence owing to years of experience and technology. Because we only dye the surface of horsehide black, it can be hard to achieve a truly ‘black’ black, and the leather can have a kind of grayish tint to it if it’s not dyed properly.
The current operator of the tannery that Double Helix cooperates with has been in the business for 50 years, and their team has a rich and deep history of experience in the relationship between the tanning and dyeing processes. In order to dye in a true, pure black, Double Helix specially commissioned an order where a special horsehide was made, and after repeated trials of dyeing tests, the black tea core horsehide of Double Helix was produced.(Thickness:1.3mm-1.5mm)

OILED WAX HORSEHIDE
Double helix is the first time that oiled horse leather has been made. The most distinctive feature is that the oil is slowly soaked in, and the texture that fits in your hand is comfortable, and the depth increases as you use it, giving it a luxurious look. There is no other material that gives you a sense of sophistication and dignity while having a leather-like texture. The material that is considered to be beautiful after aging is not only the high quality of raw leather, but also the material with a high degree of perfection as dye leather.
The Gold Digger from Double Helix works is a wonderful example of Japanese craftsmanship.
Veg tanned , washed then aniline drum dyed a beautiful light indigo that will age more like a traditional denim jacket.
We are very excited to see the evolution of these.
INDIGO DYING HORSEHIDE
The popularity of denim-type leather jackets is very high, but what would it look like if a blue dyeing and fading effect could be expressed through horsehide? The fat-liquoring horsehide is a one kind of horsehide that has been developed exclusively by Double Helix. It takes more time to make because we need to ensure that the oil slowly penetrates into every single fibre of the leather. It takes time to get the leather perfect so it will express those perfect creases while still maintaining an amazing hand feel. With the passage of time, this leather will gradually exhibit a high-level of discolouration.
Because fat-liquored horsehide does not use any chemicals or cosmetics to conceal or hide the blemishes found naturally on the raw hide, it retains the original state of the horsehide to the greatest extent possible. Only the best horsehides can be used for this. All this work and patience results in a beautiful and rare material that gives a refined sense of luxury and dignity while still highlighting the beauty of the original raw leather.(Thickness:1.4mm-1.6mm)
