The N1 deck jacket was first issued to US Navy servicemen in the early 1940s. Much copied in the years since, this military classic has evolved to become a true style icon in its own right. The Iron Heart take on the N1 remains pretty true to those original jackets—“if it ain't broke, don't fix it”—constructed with a highly durable whipcord outer shell and a high-density lining blended from sheep and alpaca wool. Of course, we’ve also given the original design a few innovative upgrades, most notably a hidden chino interlining to enhance wind resistance and a heavy-duty two-way zipper concealed beneath the traditional buttoned storm placket. This creates a formidable winter jacket, seamlessly blending authentic WW2-era styling with modern performance and functionality.

12oz Japanese Whipcord

  • 100% cotton

- Twill weave

    - Woven with hard twisted yarnsHard twisted yarns are spun with a high degree of twist, which makes them stiffer and stronger. This type of yarn is used to weave whipcord (“Jungle Cloth”) fabrics, increasing durability and resistance to abrasion.
    - Reactive-dyed warpIn weaving, the weft is the term for the thread or yarn which is drawn through the warp yarns to create cloth. Warp is the lengthwise or longitudinal thread in a roll, while the weft is the transverse thread. A single thread of the weft, crossing the warp, is called a pick. Terms do vary (for instance, in North America, the weft is sometimes referred to as the fill or the filling yarn). and weftIn weaving, the weft is the term for the thread or yarn which is drawn through the warp yarns to create cloth. - High density, long pile 80% wool / 20% alpaca lining

    - Hidden interlining for increased wind resistance

    - Two-way main zipper with button fastening placketIn modern usage, the term placket often refers to the double layers of fabric that hold the buttons and buttonholes in a shirt. Plackets can also be found at the neckline of a shirt, the cuff of a sleeve, or at the waist of a skirt or pair of trousers. Plackets are almost always made of more than one layer of fabric, and often have interfacing in between the fabric layers. This is done to give support and strength to the placket fabric because the placket and the fasteners on it are often subjected to stress when the garment is worn. The two sides of the placket often overlap. This is done to protect the wearer from fasteners rubbing against their skin, and to hide underlying clothing or undergarments.
